Archives and Records Management: Is Your Recorded Information a Record?

Is Your Recorded Information a University Record

An official University Record consists of

  • (1) recorded information AND
  • (2) evidence of business activity.

We can potentially add a third item to that list in order to eliminate a lot of other unnecessary items:

  • (3) original version of "recorded information that is evidence of business activity" (i.e., it is not a copy or duplicate)

To determine whether the recorded information you routinely handle meets the criteria you simply test it against the various challenge questions shown below. The sample questions are far from exhaustive due to space but should show a fairly simple way forward.
